Following Friday's win over Michigan State, the Union Men's Hockey Team, pleased but by no means satisfied, rarely cracking a smile in the post game interviews, bottom line this team not happy with anything but a trip to the Frozen Four.
Rick Bennett and the Dutchmen just a win away, facing UMass-Lowell with the Winner heading to Tampa.
First period, River Hawks with a great opportunity to take a 1-0 lead, but Troy Grosenick for the 2nd night in a row makes an unbelievable save. The replay from 2 different angles, the puck on it's way in, off the bounce but Grosenick gets a stick on it, so we're still scoreless.
But that changes just seconds later. Kyle Bodie feeds Daniel Ciampini in the Slot. The Dutchmen 1-0 going into the 1st intermission.
Second period still 1-0. Daniel Carr rips one, no good but Jeremy Welsh there to score off the rebound. Union takes a 2-0 lead, UMass-Lowell scored later in the period to make it a 1-goal game.
But then with under 3 minutes to go in the 2nd period, Union on the PP, Shayne Gostisbehere loses the puck but Josh Jooris snags it and scores on the backhander. Score is 3-1 Union, they tacked on another goal in the 3rd period.
The Dutchmen for the 1st time in program history are heading to the Frozen Four in Tampa. They're the 1st ECAC school in 9 years to make it to the National Semifinals. They will face Ferris State, who beat Cornell in the Midwest Regional Final, on April 5th.
