ALBANY, N.Y. -- The man arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash is arraigned in Albany court and sent to jail without bail.
It was an emotional day for family and friends of the victim. Alfred Zwack, 19, turned himself in on Monday while being accompanied by his lawyer.
Police said Zwack was driving recklessly on Quail Street on Saturday when he passed another car and ended up hitting the victim.
According to police, Etemowei-James Oki, 29, hit the metal windshield column with his head before hitting the pavement. They said Zwack just kept driving.
Oki later died at Albany Medical Center. A family friend said they are grieving and looking for justice.
"We are very pleased this morning. We just came out of court. The judge had him remanded without bail. We are just waiting for justice to be served and we are satisfied he will be in jail without bail," said family friend, Ola Adewumni.
Additional charges are pending for Zwack. Oki joined the Navy when he was 22-years-old and was studying communications at the college of Saint Rose.
