The wild turkey farms in our area are now far and few between but I found two that you can visit or call for the upcoming holidays.

'Ridgecrest Turkey Farms', 7341 W. Ridge Rd. in Brockport, N.Y. has been raising wild turkeys for a long time. With 200 Tom Turkeys, average weight 28-40lbs, and 1400 hens, average weight 20-28lbs, they won't run out any time soon! You'll pay $2.79 per pound for a fresh-dressed Nicholas White wide breasted turkey. Be sure to call ahead! (585) 637-8422. Visiting the farm is limited to parking off the side of Ridge Road and walking down. The turkeys will come right up to you!

In Lyons, New York, find 'Heiden Valley Farms' at 3433 Heidenreich Rd. Their wild turkeys are broad-breasted whites at $4.10 per pound and the old-fashioned Heritage Bronze at $4.50 per pound. Call ahead! (315) 331-0633. If you come to visit, bring your boots! Now this farm is really out in the country! Debbie and Rick are also at the Rochester Public Market and Fairport Village Farmers Market on Saturdays, where you can also arrange to pick up your bird.

If all that work cooking your turkey is a bit overwhelming for you, grab a traditional Thanksgiving turkey dinner at the East Bloomfield landmark restaurant, The Holloway House, Route 5 & 20, 29 State St. Open Thanksgiving Day 11:30am-7pm. Roast Turkey Dinner $26.95. Call for reservations! (585) 657-7120 Mmmmmm delicious!
