Dr. Seuss Band

This is what you get when you put a Guitar Hero type game in the hands of perhaps the most famous literary doctor in the world. It's Dr. Seuss Band. You get a virtual Seuss inspired horn: a trumpet, French horn, clarinet, trombone or flute with a mouthpiece, body, and horn part that can swap out on the fly. Then add some very odd effects like fishbowl, and either create your own music or play along with one of 10 original Seuss songs, hit the buttons as the colors drop down. The better you do the more horns, effects, and songs you unlock. Or if you can't wait you can also in-app purchase them for 99 cents apiece. Aside from that though, the overall app is free and for iOS devices.

Shazam

Music identifier apps were among the coolest new uses for smartphones when they launched. Hear a song on the radio, fire up the app, and it tells you what you're listening to and offers up links to buy the track immediately. Well one of the most popular, Shazam, is adding lots of functionality. For starters, LyricPlay - once a premium feature - is now free for Android and iOS users. It turns your device into a karaoke-type screen scrolling through the lyrics as you hear them. The app will also - based on who you're listening to - give you tour dates, YouTube videos, and allow you to share what you're tagging with friends. TV commercials are also getting Shazam enabled to give you more info on what you’re seeing. Shazam is a free app for pretty much every smartphone. There's also a new free Shazam player for iOS devices that lets you use LyricPlay for your own music collection.
