musiXmatch

When I sing in my car I get maybe (on top of what's probably horrible pitch, if I'm lucky) 10 percent of a song's lyrics correct. It can be a song I've heard a thousand times, makes no difference. Well if you're anything like me, now there's an app to help you do some justice to the song writer's hard work. Called musiXmatch, it goes through your device's music then draws on its huge database of lyrics to show you what you should be singing. It'll list all the lyrics of all your songs or you can use filters to make certain songs easier to find. You are advised, of course, not to correct yourself while driving but rather, study up before you hit the road. MusiXmatch is free and it's for iPhones, Androids, Windows Mobile phones, and even Nokia Symbian devices.

Little Pim Spanish

If you're interested in learning something more useful, or having your child learn something more useful, PBS has just released its first Spanish language learning app. Called Little Pim Spanish, Little Pim - a Panda who stars in a series of DVDs - walks the child through three games that help teach up to 60 vocabulary words and even helps the user put those words together to form phrases. Developers say they made this one with pre-schoolers in mind because of research that highlights young childrens' ability to learn foreign languages much more quickly and easily than teenagers and adults. Little Pim Spanish is right now an iPad only app for $2.99.
