Michelin recently released its 2013 guide to New York City dining, which includes restaurants that deliver exceptional value for great food. YNN's Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

Maybe that’s why they call it Gastronomy: food that is out of this world.

And no one zooms the telescope closer in on the universe of restaurants in New York City than Michelin does, with anonymous visits by a team of inspectors.

With a total of 66 restaurants awarded Michelin stars in the newly-released 2013 guidebook, there is a whole other galaxy worth mentioning.

"New restaurants in the Bib Gourmand category, which are restaurants that deliver exceptional value for great food," says Michael Ellis, the international director of Michelin Guides. "A meal with a first course, second course and a glass of wine for under $40."

Sometimes, Bib Gourmands give double bang for the buck. Take Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too in Morningside Heights. Her satisfying servings of soul food also rank in the under-$25 category.

"We can have lunch here with two drinks and two entrees and two sides and, of course, the free cornbread for under $25," says Norma Jean Darden of Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too.

Now, there's more value than ever to chew on in the five boroughs. The Bib Gourmand distinction is carried by 126 New York City restaurants, 14 more than last year, making it the largest list ever.

Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too, shares gastronomic glory with the likes of Ayada in Queens, Dirt Candy in the East Village, El Paso Taqueria in East Harlem, Gran Electrica and Mesa Coyoacan in Brooklyn and The Meatball Shop on the Lower East Side.
