NEW YORK STATE -- Amid allegations that it withheld millions of dollars due to betters, NYRA gets new management.
NYRA's Board of Directors announced Monday that former Chief Operating Officer Ellen McClain has been appointed the new president.
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Kenneth Handal was announced as acting General Counsel and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer Monday afternoon before also being announced as the new NYRA secretary Monday evening.
The staffing changes come after terminations of President and CEO Charles Hayward and Senior Vice President Patrick Kehoe earlier this month. Hayward and Kehoe were ousted following the release of a state racing and wagering board's report, which suggested NYRA knowingly withheld $8.5 million from winning bets over a 15 month period beginning in September 2010 and hid the information from the public.
