NEW YORK -- It was scheduled to go off rain or shine, but it turned out to be a beautiful day for a motorcycle ride to remember fallen officers.

The first annual Fallen Officers Memorial Ride brought together some 150 people Saturday in Colonie. Organized by 'Blue Friday of New York' and 'Blue Knights New York 24,' the ride stretched five counties and 94 miles.

Riders were escorted by a police motorcade the entire way to their end point at the Bethlehem Town Park in Delmar.

One participant and former state trooper lost his brother in the line of duty back in 1994.
He rode his motorcycle, his tribute bike, which contains the names of every officer in New York who has met the same unfortunate fate as his brother. While personal accounts varied, there was one message from the group as they set out on the ride Saturday.

Pat Fox said, “It's important to know for the families of these officers to know they don't stand alone, that there are people out there supporting them. And also, to support the officers that are serving on the job as well. So it's just a way for the community to show that we appreciate what you do."

Fox said part of the money raised Saturday will cover expenses for the family of deceased Poughkeepsie Police Officer John Falcone as they travel to Washington DC when his name is added to the National Law Enforcement memorial. Falcone was killed in the line of duty back in February 2011.
