COHOES, N.Y. -- Firefighters and public officials were on hand Saturday as construction officially got underway for the brand new Boght Community Firehouse.
The state-of-the-art, 26,000 square foot structure will replace the current firehouse that sits just north of the new site and will reside on a 200 acre plot that will make up the new Canterbury Crossing development.
The current firehouse is considered too small and is in major need of repair. That certainly won't be a problem with the new one: it will have six vehicle bays, including three bays for Colonie EMS.
Ken Urquhart, Boght Community Fire District Commissioner said, “With the new building, it will give them a lot more room to house the trucks and store our equipment, and to provide better service to our community."
The Boght Fire Department serves more than 5,000 residents.
