Albany Police Chief search moves forward
A member of the Albany police chief search committee is taking issue with the search process. But her fellow committee members say they simply don't agree with her claims. And the man in charge of the next leg of the search, apparently doesn't either. Our Britt Godshalk has the story.

ALBANY, N.Y. -- "The mayor needs as much information as he can get," said Alice Green, Albany Police Chief Search Committee member.
Green released a report Wednesday critical of the search process, saying more information about each nominee should have been provided to Mayor Jerry Jennings. But Jennings saying flatly, job well done.
"They did a job I asked them to do," said Jennings. "They've given me names. But now it's my job to pick someone for the chief."
He says the first step will be to meet with the committee as a group on Monday.
"And that was the plan all along," said Jennings. "I know it's important that I should sit down to talk to them. To get some feedback on the process, what they heard from the public."
One of the things he's bound to hear is Green's criticism on that process. Green says she feels the candidates should have been ranked and the list really should have only included the names of two nominees, because they are "exceptionally qualified."
"There was an eight to zero vote for two of the candidates, which was Krokoff and King," said Green.
But two others, Jamie Fields and John Pikus, were also overwhelmingly voted onto the nominee list.
"One of the candidates are on the list simply because one the members made a motion that the person should be included because they like them," said Green. "'I know him and I like him. I know other people who like him.'"
Her fellow members emphatically deny her claims that they failed to properly vet the list of candidates, which once stood at 48.
"We were deliberate, we were careful and we took our time in doing it," said Alan Lizotte, a committee member.
Volunteers working on minimal budget, they depended on the media to do much of the vetting.
"It's a tremendous value for the city of Albany and I think it's great that media can be utilized in such an important task," said Felix Perez, a committee member.
"I'm comfortable with the way it went, I thank them once again, as far as I'm concerned we're going to move one," said Jennings.
Green also blasting the committee for not being more vocal about what she says is the need for the next chief to work under a contract. Jennings saying simply, that is his decision, one of many he'll make about the chief in the coming weeks. But we should note it doesn't end there, his pick must be confirmed or vetoed by the common council.
